Lava tube caves are formed when a low-viscosity lava flow develops a continuous and hard crust which then thickens and forms a roof above the molten lava stream. When the eruption subsides, the still-molten lava moving beneath the crust will continue to drain downhill, leaving an open lava tube cave. Many lava tube caves have been discovered in Iceland.

The Icelandic horse is a breed of horse developed in Iceland. Icelandic horses are long-lived and hardy. In their native country, they have few diseases; Icelandic law prevents horses from being imported into the country and exported animals are not allowed to return. The Icelandic horse displays two gaits in addition to the typical walk, trot, and canter/gallop commonly displayed by other breeds. This is the only breed of horses in Iceland.
Whale watching tours are operated from the old harbour in Reykjavik. The whales most frequently seen on tours are the Minke whales, Humpback whales, Dolphins and Porpoises other species are sometimes spotted.
